After seeing Manchester City go third with a 5-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday, Roberto Mancini has now set his sights on the runners-up spot.
The Citizens leapfrogged Chelsea in the standings after their empathic win at Eastlands and are now just three points behind second-placed Arsenal, who could only draw 0-0 with Blackburn on Saturday. Not satisfied with their current position, Mancini insists his side can now hunt down the Gunners.
The Italian was quoted as saying in The Sun newspaper: "
We can be runners-up. Why not?
"It was important for us to win this game for many reasons - we went into into third position.
"Now we are only three points off Arsenal, while Chelsea are behind us - although it's true they have a game in hand.
"It was an important weekend - a big weekend will be when we win something."
Looking forward to the all-Manchester FA Cup semi-final at Wembley in two weeks time, Mancini hopes his side's impressive form of late will give Alex Ferguson something to think about.
He added: "Will he be worried? I don't know. He knows that the FA Cup semi-final is just one game and anything can happen.
"He's knows us very well, just as we know United.
"It's possible this will give us a big confidence boost but it's important we continue like this and go to win at Liverpool next Monday. I think we can improve."
